Kataldhar Waterfall — Karjat's Rocky Monsoon Gem
Karjat is famous for river camping, rappelling, and adventure activities — but it also hides some of the most dramatic waterfall scenery in the Western Ghats. Kataldhar is one such hidden gem: a powerful monsoon waterfall that tumbles through a rocky boulder-strewn gorge near Bhivpuri, offering an adventurous approach and a rewarding destination.
The waterfall is about 90 km from Mumbai and 110 km from Pune, making it a practical day trip for both cities. The approach involves a 2-3 km walk through forest and over boulders — part trek, part rock scramble. The effort makes it less accessible than the roadside waterfalls of Lonavala, which also means fewer crowds and a more wild, authentic experience.

From Pune: Take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, exit at Khopoli. Drive to Bhivpuri. Distance: ~110 km, 2.5 hours.
