1. Kondeshwar Waterfall — Closest to Mumbai (50 km)
Adjacent to the ancient Kondeshwar temple near Ambarnath, this waterfall is Mumbai's most accessible cascade. Take the Central Railway to Ambarnath station, then a short auto ride.
What makes it special: The 1,000-year-old Kondeshwar Shiva temple beside the waterfall makes this a combined spiritual and nature experience.
2. Bhivpuri Waterfall (75 km)
Take the train to Bhivpuri Road station on the Karjat line — the waterfall is a short walk away. The Ulhas River valley backdrop makes it particularly scenic in monsoon.
Tip: Combine with Kondana Caves (Buddhist rock-cut caves from 1st century BCE) on the same day.
3. Vihigaon Waterfall (90 km)
Near Khardi on the Central Railway line, Vihigaon is a beautiful seasonal waterfall popular with Mumbaikars. The forest setting and relatively manageable crowds (compared to Kondeshwar) make it a favourite.
4. Zenith Falls, Igatpuri (130 km)
The Igatpuri area has multiple waterfalls visible from the train itself during monsoon. Zenith Falls is among the best — accessible from Igatpuri station with local transport.
5. Umbrella Falls, Igatpuri (120 km)
Named for its umbrella-shaped spread, this seasonal fall near Igatpuri is a short hike from the road. Best visited August–September.
