Dapoli Travel Guide: Konkan's Hidden Hill-Beach Hybrid
Dapoli is unusual: a hill-station sitting 400 metres above the Konkan coast, combining the cool climate of a plateau with easy access to some of the most pristine beaches in Maharashtra. The drive through coconut groves and paddy fields is half the experience.
Why Dapoli
- Mild climate: Higher altitude means cooler than coastal towns, even in summer
- Multiple beaches: Karde, Murud, Anjarle, Ladghar — each with a different character
- Suvarnadurg: One of the best-preserved Maratha sea forts
- Authentic Konkani food: Some of the best local cuisine in Maharashtra
- Low tourist footprint: Still genuinely off the beaten path
Getting There
From Pune
- Drive via Expressway → Poladpur → Khed → Dapoli

Beaches Near Dapoli
Karde Beach (20 km from Dapoli)
The most visited beach — wide, sandy, with water sports operators. Jet skiing, banana rides, camel rides on the sand. Gets busy on weekends.
Murud Dapoli Beach (12 km)
Not to be confused with Murud-Janjira, this is a quieter beach near Harne village. Good base for the Suvarnadurg boat trip.
Anjarle Beach (25 km)
A long secluded beach at the mouth of the Jaigad creek. Known for the ancient Kadyavarcha Ganesh temple on a rocky cliff. Excellent birding in the creek backwaters.
Ladghar Beach (30 km)
Also called "Dol" beach — a hidden gem with golden sand, casuarina trees, and very few visitors. No facilities — pure, unspoiled beach.
Suvarnadurg Fort
Built on an island in the 17th century by Shivaji Maharaj, Suvarnadurg (Golden Fort) guards the mouth of Harne Creek. Remarkably intact with bastions, watch towers, and a sweet water well.
Access: Boats from Harne village jetty (₹60–80 per person return, 10-minute ride). Fort is open 9 AM – 5 PM. Wear comfortable shoes for the rocky paths inside.
Food
Dapoli is a culinary highlight of the Konkan:
- Malvani fish curry: Spiced coconut curry with fresh reef fish
- Kombdi vade: Chicken curry with thick fried vade bread
- Sol kadhi: Cooling kokum drink
- Modak and karanji: Local sweets
Recommended: Local homestays and dhabas often serve the most authentic food.
Where to Stay
- Dapoli town: Hotels and lodges (₹1,000–3,000)
- Beach resorts at Karde: Mid-range (₹2,500–6,000)
- Homestays: The most authentic experience; families rent rooms in traditional Konkani homes
- Ladghar: A few quiet resorts with beach access (₹3,000–7,000)

- Carry cash; ATMs are limited in smaller villages
- Book homestays well in advance for October–January
